Redescription of Diorchis spinata and D. tshanensis (Cestoda,
Hymenolepididae) — Parasites from Ducks of Holarctic. Greben O. B. — The cestodes
known as Diorchis spinata Mayhew, 1929 parasitizing ducks (Anatidae) in Ukraine
and the USA. were examined. The species previously recorded from Europe and Asia
is shown to be different from D. spinata described from the USA.; both species
parasitize same hosts. Diorchis tshanensis Krotov, 1949 is resurrected from synonymy
with D. spinata; this name is applied to the Eurasian species. D. spinata and
D. tshanensis differ by the cirrus shape and armament, as well. Each species is
redescribed.

Morphological Anomalies of Mite Varroa destructor
(Parasitiformes, Varroidae). Akimov I. A., Zaloznaya L. M., Benedyk S. V.
— A comparative analysis of morphological anomalies in seasonal and regional samples
of Varroa destructor Anderson and Trueman, 2000 was conducted. It was found, that
the abnormality rate of most morphological characters increases from spring to
summer and, conversely, decreases from autumn to winter. No region of Ukraine
may be characterized by relatively high or low degree of abnormalities in all
the studied characters. In the last 20 years, the abnormality rate of same morphological
characters has been decreased twice.

Colpodella pseudoedax sp. n. (Protista, Colpodellida)
— a New Alveolate Carnivorous Flagellate. Myl’nikov A. P., Myl’nikov A. A.
— The cell of carnivorous freshwater flagellate Colpodella pseudoedax sp. n. has
two flagella, three-membrane pellicle, micropore, subpellicular microtubules,
microtubular conoid, roptries, extrusive organelles of rod-like type, mitochondria
with tubular and vesicular cristae. The thin-walled cylinder is present in the
transitional zone of flagella. The life cycle consists of vegetative stage and
rest cyst. The new species differs from closely related Colpodella edax (Klebs,
1892) Simpson and Patterson, 1996 by smaller cell dimensions and absence of reproductive
cyst.

Morphological Structures of the Pontic Shad
Alosa pontica s. l. (Clupeiformes, Alosiinae) Populations of Danube and its Modifications
During the 50 Years Period. Mezhzherin S. V., Fedorenko L. V. — It is shown
that the body size as well as proportions of the body, head and fins of Danube
populations of Pontic shad Alosa pontica have undergone changes in the past 50
years, which are corresponding with augmentation of fish dimensions and also with
trends towards increasing values of indices and elements of meristical characters.
A comparative analysis of the direction and degree of the revealed changes of
the morphological characters with their dynamics during the spawning season and
age changes shows the ambiguity of the variability confined to these three vectors.
So the changes of morphological structure of the shad for the last 50-year term
could be either ontogenetic transformations caused by the changes of environment,
particularly due to climate warming, or transformation of the systematic structure
of the Danube population of shad, as far as gene marking and morphological heterogeneity
of the shad during the spawning season, as revealed in this study, prove the polytypic
character of A. pontica.

Wintering of the Corvid Birds (Corvidae) on
the Territory of Kyiv. Yanish E.Yu., Loparev S. A. — In Kóiv region up to
2005 the territory placement of Crows on wintering that was present since the
30th years of the XX century had almost changed. Described methods that were used
for finding the new places of night stays and places of gathering had justified
themselves and can be used for the other large wintering. The total number of
wintering in 2004–2005 reaches from 163 500 to 170 000 birds that is somewhat
higher that in 70–80ths (140–150 thousands). The percent of species and the number
of young rooks in flocks has not been changed significantly compared with preceding
years. The behavior peculiarities of choosing places of gathering, night stays
and migration ways did not change particularly.

Helminthes of the Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes)
in the Askania Nova Biosphere Reserve (Ukraine). Zvegintsova N. S., Dumenko V.
P., Varodi E. I. — Twelve helminths species (3 cestodes and 9 nematodes) were
found in the Red Foxes (Vulpes vulpes Linnaeus) collected the territory of Askania
Nova Reserve (Ukraine, Kherson Region) in 1999–2005. Two of the nematode species
are not specific to foxes, they are specific parasites of the rodents. The overall
prevalence of infection of foxes by helminths was 100%. Intestinal species composed
the core of community. Mesocestoides lineatus (Goeze, 1782) was the dominant species
based both on the mean of intensity and prevalence. Compound gastrointestinal
infections were observed in 92% of foxes. The nematode species Rictularia affinis
(Ja#gerskiold, 1904).was first found on the mainland territory of Ukraine.

Species Composition and Population Dynamics
of Phytonematodes in Pine Rhizosphere Pinus sylvestris. Sigareva D. D., Misjura
N. O., Galagan T. O., Nikishicheva K. S. — The complex of nematodes living
in rhizosphere of pine seedlings in the nursery of National Agrarian University
(Kyiv) was examined. As a result, 52 species of phytonematodes were found; they
belong to 3 ecotrophical groups: plant parasites (7 species), mycophagous (13)
and saprobiotic nematodes (32). The increasing of populations density during the
vegetative season was the highest for the group of plant parasites (166–773 individuals
per 100 cm3 of soil, or 4.6 times), the medium — for mycophagous (360–954 individuals
per 100 cm3 of soil, or 3 times), and the least — for saprobiotic nematodes group
(from 1143 individuals per 100 cm3 of soil in June to 2282 — in September, or
twice).

Acineta persiensis sp. n. (Ciliophora, Suctorea)
— a New Freshwater Suctorian Species from the Water Mites of the Genus Protzia
(Acari, Hydrachnidia). Dovgal I. V., Pesic V. — Acineta persiensis Dovgal
et Pesic, sp. n. — a new suctorian ciliate species, was described from specimens
collected in Guik stream, Khorrasan Province, Iran and in Stream Bistrica near
village Crkvine, Montenegro. The suctorian was found colonizing the legs of the
hydrachnid mites Protzia sepasgosariani and P. invalvaris. A new species differs
from other species of the genus Acineta in the lorica structure, stalk morphology,
the ability to hyperphoretic pseudocolonies formation and geographical distribution.

The Peritrichia (Ciliophora, Peritrichia)
in the Activated Sludge Tank of Sewage Treatment Plant from Zhytomyr. Konstantynenko
L. A. — 19 species of Peritrichia were found in the activated sludge of activated
sludge tank in the sewage treatment plant from Zhytomyr. Eight of them are new
for Ukrainian fauna. The diagnoses and pictures of the new for the region species
are given.

Larval Morphology of the Subgenus Megacephala
s. str. (Coleoptera, Cicindelidae). Putchkov A. V., Werner K. — General morphological
characteristic of larvae in the subgenus Megacephala s. str. and their differences
from larvae in other subgenera are given. The III instar larva of M. regalis Bohemann,
1848 is described. Some morphological characters allow to distinguish the larvae
of certain taxa in Megacephala s. str.

Syninclusions of Ants Lasius schiefferdeckeri
(Hymenoptera, Formicidae) and Aphids Germaraphis (Homoptera, Aphidinea) in Rovno
and Saxonian Ambers. Perkovsky E. E. — Aphid species are listed co-occurred
with the ant Lasius schiefferdeckeri Mayr in the Rovno and Saxonian ambers. The
first record of Germaraphis oblonga Heie syninclused with ants is reported based
on a piece of the Rovno amber from Klesov locality which displays five aphids,
four workers of L. schiefferdeckeri, and two ant larvae. Îf 29 pieces of the Saxonoan
amber with L. schiefferdeckeri in the Manfred Kutscher Collection (Sassnitz),
two bear 31 aphids G. dryoides as well. In the collection of Saxonian amber at
the Museum fu#r Naturkunde, Humboldt-Universita#t zu Berlin, of 144 pieces with
L. schiefferdeckeri two reveal two specimens of G. dryoides as well. Rovno amber
is known to differ from the Baltic and Saxonian ones in having, the first, much
higher share of L. schiefferdeckeri among ants, and the second, five times lower
share of G. dryoides among insects. This makes likely symbiotic relationships
of L. schiefferdeckeri with the aphids other than G. dryoides, e. g., with G.
oblonga. Abundance of Germaraphis-and-ant syninclusions in various Eocene ambers
falsifies the hypothesis by Î. Heie (1967) about occasional and not symbiotic
nature of the co-occurrence of these aphids and ants in the ambers.
