Conception of Crossed Populations: Application in Cyclopoida
Taxonomy. Monchenko V. I., Samchyshyna L. V. — The conception of crossed populations
in wide practice of taxonomic investigations in Cyclopoida is used for the first
time. Applying this conception in taxonomy of cyclopoid copepods we based on revealed
facts of the coexistence of sibling species which keep a little morphological
hiatus. Hence, next pairs of species we consider as independent ones: Eucyclops
speratus (Lilljeborg) and Å. serrulatus (Lilljeborg); Paracyclops poppei (Rehberg)
and P. fimbriatus (Fischer); Megacyclops latipes (Lowndes), M. viridis (Jurine)
and M. gigas (Claus); Diacyclops clandestinus (Kiefer) and D. languidoides (Lilljeborg);
D. hypnicola (Gurney) and D. languidoides (Lilljeborg); D. odessanus (Schmankevitsch)
and D. bicuspidatus (Claus); Microcyclops rubellus (Lilljeborg) and M. varicans
(Sars); Halicyclops septentrionalis (Kiefer) and H. neglectus (Kiefer). Facts
of coexistence of Acanthocyclops americanus (Marsh) and its form A. americanus
f. spinosa (Monchenko) differing by only one qualitative feature (spine or setà
on outer edge on endopodite P4 distal segment) that has no transitive manifestation
do not allow us to consider morphological form A. americanus f. spinosa as a separated
species from the type A. americanus.
Key words: Cyclopoida, sibling species, coexistence, morphological hiatus, crossed

Heliozoans (Centrohelida, Actinophryida) of
Sphagnous Bogs in Central Russia. Leonov M. M., Myl’nikov A. P. — The species
composition of the heliozoans species in sphagnous bogs in Central Russia is studied
by the example of boggy water bodies in Usman pinery of Middle Russian Wood-and-Steppe
Zone. In the studied water bodies, 13 species and 2 forms of heliozoans from 4
taxonomic groups (centrohelids, desmothoracids, actinophryids and rotosphaerids)
were found. Among them 9 species recorded in Russia for the first time. The cosmopolitism
of the found heliozoans is discussed.
Key words: heliozoans, Centrohelida, Desmothoracida, Actinophryida, Rotosphaerida,

Strongylid Community Structure of the Przewalski’s
Horses (Equus ferus Przewalskii) from the Biosphere Reserve “Askania-Nova”, Ukraine.
Kuzmina T. A., Zvegintsova N. S., Zharkikh T. L. — Spe¬cies composition and
the structure of strongylid community of the Przewalski’s horse (Equus ferus przewalskii
Poljakov, 1881) semi-free population at the “Askania-Nova” Biosphere Reserve were
stu¬died by the in vivo method of diagnostic deworming. After deworming of 24
adult Przewalski’s horses by the anthelmintic “Univerm” (0.2% aversectin Ñ, Russia),
25,815 strongylid specimens were collec¬ted and identified. Thirty-one strongylid
species of 12 genera were found including 6 species of the subfamily Strongylinae
and 25 — of Cyathostominae. Nine to 18 strongylid species (average 14.5 ± 2.5)
were found per horse. Cyathostomes (Cyathostominae) dominated in the Przewalski’s
horse strongylid community: 9 species (Cyathostomum catinatum, C. pateratum, Cylicocyclus
nassatus, C. insigne, C. leptostomum, C. ashworthi, Cylicostephanus longibursatus,
C. goldi and C. minutus) were found in more than 80% of horses examined and composed
94.1% of the total number of strongylid collected. Stron¬gyles (Strongylinae)
were found in 100% of the E. ferus przewalskii examined; prevalence of separate
species was from 4.2% to 58.3%. The general structure of the strongylid community
was multimodal with dominant (9 species), subdominant (4), background (4) and
rare (14) species. The list of strongylid species found in the Przewalski’si horses
in Ukraine was enlarged to 37 species.
Key words: Przewalski’s horses, Equus ferus przewalskii, strongylida, nematoda,

Dynamics of Content and Number of the Moths
Species (Lepidoptera, Noctuidae) in Lugansk Natural Reserve (Ukraine). Klyuchko
Z. F. — Results of long-term monitoring (1965–2007) of moths fauna in the
“Striltsivskiy Steppe” Natural Reserve are summarized. Changes of species composition,
moth number for each species and total numbers, species distribution, their seasonal
dynamics, changes in ecological structure in reserve are analyzed for 318 species
(from 144 genera).

Species Structure and Catches of Anadromous
and Freshwater Fishes of Lower Dnieper Estuarian System: Dynamics in XX Century
and Comparison with Lower Danube. Verlatiy D. B., Mezhzherin S. V., Fedorenko
L. V. — Information on catches and species composition of anadromous and freshwater
species of cyclostomata and fishes of the Lower Dnieper community is summarized
based on materials of 1931–2007. As the result, only 21 of the 47 species of the
native community are shown to be extant. Anadromous and reophilous species are
especially suffered. Modern catches in the Lower Dnieper are 6,4%, and without
taking into account the invasive species, 4,4% compared to the level of 1930s.
The catastrophic condition of the Lower Dnieper fish community is especially obvious
in comparison with the situation in the Lower Danube, where losses of native fish
species is less than one-quarter, and modern catches in the Ukrainian part of
the Danube Delta are 34% of the previous level.

Phytoseiid Mites (Parasitiformes, Phytoseiidae)
on Plants in Trostyanets Dendrological Park (Ukraine). Omeri I. D. — Species
composition and distribution of phytoseiid mites (Parasitiformes, Phytoseiidae)
are studied studied on plants in Trostyanets state dendrological park NAS of Ukraine
(Trostyanets village, Ichnya region, Chernigiv oblast, Ukraine) for the first
time. Mites of twenty phytoseiid species from nine genera were found. Frequency
of occurrence of each species is estimated as well as their relative biotopic
allocation to both vegetation type and plant species.

A Current State of Cave Dwelling Bat Species
(Mammalia, Chiroptera) of the Crimea. Godlevskaya E. V., Ghazali M. A., Postawa
T. — During summer and winter of 2004–2005 totally 64 artificial and natural
underground objects in both plain and mountain Crimea were checked. Totally, for
all the period of investigations, almost 60 thousands of individuals of 12 species
were counted: including all known earlier troglophilic species of the region with
the exception of Miniopterus schreibersii which remains to be extinct here. The
base of species list by the maximum general quantity of individuals and number
of roosts is compiled by Rhinolophus ferrumequinum (25.7% and 60%) and Myotis
blythii (73.3% and 53%, accordingly). It was shown that in artificial underground
shelters a general number of bats both in winter and summer in order higher than
in caves and grottos of the mountain Crimea (26 060 and 3399 against 1904 and
272, accordingly). 12 key underground sites were determined, for all of them implementation
or strengthening of protection measures are required, including by giving a protection
status for 8 of them.

To Distribution of Some Species of the Gobies
Family (Perciformes, Gobiidae) in the Waters of Ukraine. Manilo L. G. — Based
on the materials of revision the family Gobiidae in stock collections of Zoological
museum NMNH NASU it is established that finds of Benthophiloides brauneri Beling
et Iljin, 1927, Caspiosoma caspium (Kessler, 1877) in the Dnieper river near Kyiv
are erroneous. The mushroom goby Neogobius eurycephalus (Kessler, 1874) must be
excluded from the fish checklist of the Danube Biosphere Reserve. The finds on
the territory of Ukraine of the Caucasian River Goby Neogobius constructor (Nordmann,
1840) are unreliable. Gobius xanthocephalus Heymer et Zander, 1992 inhabits the
Black Sea, including near the south shores of the Crimea, and Gobius auratus Risso,
1810 must be excluded from «The Red Data Book of Ukraine».
Key words: Gobiidae, species, subspecies, area, distribution, Black sea, Dnieper,
